White Wine Pick of the Day
My pick of the day for the long, hot, summer is Grüner Veltliner. This Austrian wine has a crisp apple and citrus fruit profile and racy acidity. This is a brilliant, mouthwatering, summer wine whose grape is grown almost exclusively in Austria. It is said to date back to Roman times and has a food friendly reputation. If you think of Riesling as too heavy or sweet (even though there are bone dry Rieslings) and Pinot Grigio as boring you should give Grüner Veltliner a try. The acidity makes it versatile with a variety of foods from Sushi to Weiner Schnitzel. It is great as an aperitif or with salads and light apetizers.
